Biography

A. (ALBERT) MARQUET
1875 Bordeaux (France) - 1947 Parijs (France)

French artist Albert Marquet was born in Bordeaux on March 27, 1875. Marquet studied at the art academy in Paris, where he met Henri Matisse, among others. In 1901, he participated in the Salon des Indépendants. In his landscapes, you can recognize the influence of Paul Cézanne and Vincent van Gogh. The friendship with Matisse continued beyond the academy days. Together they painted on the banks of the Seine. Unlike other Fauvists, Albert Marquet paid great attention to the composition of the painting. He sold his work well, allowing him to make many trips to Egypt, Norway and Eastern Europe. During World War II, he lived in Algiers and died in Paris on June 14, 1947.
