A.F. (AUGUST) SIEGERT
1820 Neuwied (Germany) - 1883 Düsseldorf (Germany)
Düsseldorf was the center on which Siegert's life took place. With occasional absences for a few years, such as to Munich, he settled in Düsseldorf in 1851 and became the owner of a Meisteratelier of the art academy and teached there. From 1850 to 1883 he was a member of the Düsseldorfer Kunstlerverein Malkasten (An artists' association still active today). Initially Siegert chose the history genre, depicting events in history. Later he switched to the genre painting, subjects from everyday life. His work shows a very fine eye for detail and great talent in depicting it.
