A.J. (CO) BREMAN
1865 Zwolle - 1938 Laren

Co Breman began his artistic education at an early age, first in Zwolle and after an acte M.O. drawing, he left for Brussels and finally for four years Académie Royal des Beaux Arts to Paris. Back in Amsterdam, he became a member of St.Lucas. In 1897 he left for the (then) unspoiled Gooi in Blaricum. There he led a carefree and cheerful bohemian existence with other artists. Hard work and lots of parties. He was a regular visitor to Hotel Hammdorf. Although he painted on commission, he preferred to work freely. He sold well, even abroad. He used bright colors which had a sunny effect. Like his contemporary Hart Nibbrig, Breman used pointillism. During his lifetime, he successfully held various board positions of painting societies. His works is presented not only in Dutch museums but also in museums in Madrid and Berlin.
