Over G.J.H. (GEO) POGGENBEEK

Belonged to the so-called second generation "Hague School." He was a skilled watercolorist and etcher. Used more bright colors than was used in the Hague School. He is best known for his landscapes with cattle. Good friend of Nico Basterd with whom he traveled extensively. His work can be found in most museums with 19th century collections and is in collections at home and abroad. The watercolor with cows, considering the time in which it was painted, can be called progressive: the high horizon is much more modern than was usual until then . The quality of the watercolor is excellent. The colors of green that Poggenbeek uses here are typical for his work.
