Over M. (MARIA) VOS

Maria Vos left an extensive body of work but little is known about her personal life. She was taught by the painter Petrus Kiers, and it was in his studio that she met the then already famous painter Adriana Haanen. They struck up a friendship that would last a lifetime. Maria Vos settled in the painter's village of Oosterbeek. It must be assumed that she enjoyed great fame during her lifetime: from sources around her we know that her eightieth birthday was celebrated extensively and she was praised there. Her house in Oosterbeek was a meeting place for artists. Her work was also praised. In addition to a large number of still lifes, she also painted landscapes. An exception for a woman of that time.
